Join Public Health Biologist Dr. Mario Novelo Canto for a deeper dive into vector surveillance programs. Learn how Sacramento monitors mosquitoes, ticks, and other arthropods of public health concern.
🎙 About our speaker: Dr. Mario Novelo Canto is a Public Health Biologist at the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District, where he supports mosquito-borne disease surveillance programs, evaluates control methods, and conducts field trials testing the tools used to keep mosquito populations in check. He earned his PhD in Entomology from Penn State University, where his research focused on how viruses like dengue and chikungunya grow and spread within mosquitoes. Originally from Yucatán, Mexico, Mario has published extensively on mosquito-virus interactions and applied vector control and surveillance.
