Get into the spooky spirit and create your own eerie masterpiece in this fun and imaginative still life painting workshop. Perfect for aspiring artists of all ages and skill levels, this hands-on session introduces the fundamentals of drawing and painting while encouraging creativity and self-expression.Participants will learn how to design, sketch and paint a spooky still life composition inspired by a collection of Halloween-themed objects and curious treasures. Guided by experienced artist facilitator Jessica Ashton, students will explore key artistic techniques including observation drawing, colour mixing, layering paint, and creating light and shadow to bring depth and atmosphere to their artwork.
A range of still life objects will be provided for inspiration, or participants are welcome to bring along their own spooky props to incorporate into their composition. Whether depicting mysterious pumpkins, haunted treasures, peculiar creatures or other imaginative objects, each artwork will be uniquely their own.
This workshop provides a fun and supportive environment for young artists to build confidence, develop new skills and experiment with painting on canvas.
All materials are supplied, and participants will take home their completed canvas artwork at the end of the session.
Suitable for all ages and abilities. No experience required. All materials provided. Participants are encouraged to wear clothes suitable for painting.

About the Artist
Jessica Ashton is a Sydney based artist whose practice spans portraiture, still life, and landscape painting. Working primarily from life, her paintings are distinguished by intuitive mark making, luminous colour, and a deep engagement with direct observation. A three time Archibald Prize finalist, Ashton has also been recognised in numerous prestigious awards, including the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Mosman Art Prize, and the Parliament Plein Air Prize.
Alongside her studio practice, Ashton is an experienced educator who looks forward to teaching in Tamworth where she grew up! She teaches painting from her Manly studio, portrait drawing at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and life drawing at the University of Technology Sydney.
