Sarah Towle: How Immigration Was Weaponized to Break U.S. Democracy
Join the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida Suncoast (SJAFS) on October 24 for an engaging and timely discussion with award-winning educator, researcher, and author Sarah Towle. Drawing on her powerful nonfiction book, Crossing the Line: Finding America in the Borderlands, Sarah will explore the harsh realities of the U.S. immigration system and how immigration has been used to undermine democracy.
The program will feature a keynote presentation by Sarah, followed by a panel discussion on immigration, civil liberties, and the impact on our communities. Panelists will include Sarah Towle, Michelle Champion, Dr. Johana Kuemere-Pinillos, and Daniela Arcadia, moderated by Michelle Jewell, SURE Executive Director and Community Organizer.
The event will conclude with audience questions, community dialogue, and discussion of opportunities for collaboration and collective action. A book signing and meet-and-greet will follow.
