Sarah Tiffen has been writing all her life. She is Founder of Leeton Writers Collective and Riverina Writing House - an independent publishing house and centre for writers and writing - and mentors writers from all backgrounds, young and old, to find their voice and tell their stories. Her writing has a particular relationship to Place - and rural Australia and the people, landscape, history and community of her home country feature in much of her work. She is a strong proponent of the philosophy that the more particular and specific one's writing, the more universal it becomes and the spiritual aspects of her poetry have been commented on by many. She is part of a developing "Riverina Aesthetic" about which she has written, as an emerging recognisable 'school' of writing and storytelling, including film and art.
Shortlisted for the ACU Poetry Prize three times, and featured in ABC Radio's PoeticA, and Best of Australian Poetry a number of times, she was friends with the late great Les Murray and he honoured her by twice publishing her work in Quadrant when he was Poetry Editor.
We'll have our usual Open Mic - in which you are all warmly invited to participate.
