Join us for a fun Saturday morning with author Sara Laux Akin for her new picture book, , in which two sisters live in harmony with and protect a geyser in this modern folktale woven together through luminous collage art from a Caldecott Honor winner.
We will have a story time and talk about the book, a short video about the art, questions, and collage activities for kids while adults talk to Sara.
About the book:
On an island of moss and mist, two sisters coexist with the land, its animals, and a geyser that generously warms their home. But as the nearby village grows, people begin tossing their garbage into the geyser without considering the consequences. Soon, the geyser must find a way to stop them, and the result is a reminder the village will never forget.
This lyrical tale with intricately layered and boldly colored collage illustrations by Caldecott Honoree Micha Archer gives a fresh voice to an ever-important message about protecting nature's wonders.
About the author:
Sara Laux Akin grew up building forts in the woods around her Wisconsin home. She is a hiker, forager, and skier and loves exploring the outdoors in her native Midwest. About the illustrator:
Micha Archer was awarded a Caldecott Honor for her book and an Ezra Jack Keats Award for , among several other acclaimed picture books she has written and/or illustrated, including , written by Anne Wynter. Micha works in acrylics and collage using papers she both collects and makes with homemade stamps and layered tissue paper.
