Third Place Books welcomes Sara Amini to our Seward Park store to present her new book Mixed Signals: A Graphic Novel. A sequel to the graphic novel Mixed Feelings, Amini's new book is an honest portrayal of adolescence and readers grow alongside Sara during an era of dial-up internet and landlines.

About Mixed Signals . . .
Sara's finding herself caught in a strange in-between space. Is she an actress or an athlete? A crush or a calculator? An adolescent or an adult? With so many mixed signals, will Sara ever be able to find her place?

A: The cutest boy in school messages you on AIM.
B: You've made the volleyball team and nailed your drama club audition.
C: Your parents recognize how responsible you are and treat you like an adult.
D: SIKE! None of this turns out the way you expect it to!
Seventh grade started out strong, but now Sara is struggling... Because of her volleyball schedule, she may not be cast in the play. And due to her commitment to drama club, she could be benched during the big game. To make matters worse, her crush only seems to talk to her when he needs help in math class. And to top it off, her parents pick and choose when to treat her like a kid or a grown-up.
In this feel-good follow-up to Mixed Feelings, being a teenage girl has never been so hilarious and harrowing at the same time!
About the author. . .
Sara Amini is an Iranian-Colombian actress, who has starred in various television series, been the face of nearly two dozen commercial campaigns, and voiced characters in both video games and animation. Originally from Houston, Texas, Sara now lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband and son. Mixed Feelings, the first book in her graphic memoir trilogy, released April 2026 to critical acclaim.
About the illustrator. . .
Shadia Amin is a Colombian cartoonist and illustrator based in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a bachelor's degree in sequential art, minoring in illustration. She later earned her master's degree in sequential art, also from SCAD. Her art aims to capture the fun of superheroes, fantasy, and life itself, and her works include Shiny Misfits, Spider-Ham, Aggretsuko, and Olive & Popeye. She has also contributed to anthologies like Alloy: Electrum and Votes for Women: The Battle for the 19th Amendment. Shadia is also a teacher, and when she is not working, she can be found cooking, playing video games, or spending time with her husband, dogs, and cat. Find her online at shadiaminart.com.
