About this Event
Enjoy the fall weather and a relaxed walk around the beautiful Leonora Curtain Wetland Preserve. Birders can expect to see as many as 30 species including waterfowl, late fall migrants, and winter residents. This walk is time limited to 2 hours, so please be on time as we will start promptly at 7:00 am.
Accessibility: The loop around the wetlands is under 1 mile total on a dirt path with little to no elevation changes. There are some benches along the way. There is shade from tree coverage (depending on how fast they drop their leaves!) and a small shelter at the trailhead. There are port-a-potties at the parking area.
This preserve is only open for part of the year and normally accessed via a 1 mile hike from the historic El Rancho de Las Golondrinas, but FBC has arranged for attendees to park in the lot right next to the wetlands off the I-25 frontage road (35.564770037187586, -106.10228336838591) for improved accessibility. Vehicles must be out of the parking lot by 9am, but after the official outing all attendees are invited to explore the historic rancho and museum at no cost and even return to the wetland via the ranch trail if they desire.
