This Field Day will explore one of the most exciting frontiers in regenerative viticulture: animal integration. Together, we'll discuss the practical opportunities, challenges, and benefits of incorporating livestock into vineyard systems to build healthier soils, improve ecosystem function, and strengthen vineyard resilience.
Whether you're already participating in the One Block Challenge or simply curious about regenerative viticulture, this is a unique opportunity to connect with fellow growers, learn from real-world experience, and see regenerative farming in action at one of Santa Barbara County's most inspiring vineyards.

About the One Block Challenge™
The One Block Challenge™, developed by the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation and piloted in Paso Robles in February 2025, gives growers a low-risk, practical entry point into regenerative agriculture. Participants commit one vineyard block—or even a few rows—to trial selected regenerative practices for a single season. Each grower chooses from a regionally adapted menu that may include diverse cover crops, compost applications, removing herbicides, reducing tillage, and integrating livestock. Baseline and year-end soil assessments help participants understand the changes on their block and decide whether to expand these practices more widely.
The One Block Challenge is now active in California in Napa, Santa Barbara, Sonoma, Mendocino, and Temecula, and internationally in New Zealand, Chile, France, South Africa, Texas, and the UK!
About the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation
The (RVF) is a UK-registered charity that advocates for the global transition to regenerative farming in vineyards. Its work focuses on translating science into practice and supporting growers in adopting methods that restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and strengthen vineyard resilience. The One Block Challenge exemplifies RVF’s broader work to accelerate the adoption of regenerative practices worldwide. RVF’s goal is for 10 % of the world’s vineyards to be managed regeneratively by 2035.
