The Santa Barbara City College Trombone Ensembles will be presenting their FREE "Slide Show" concert on Sunday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. in SBCC's Fe Bland Forum (under the BC building's clock tower on West Campus). This semester's concert theme is all about ANIMATION!!! From zany Looney Tunes cartoons to beloved Disney movies, you will be hearing many outstanding brand-new arrangements from our very own SBCC Trombone Choir members!
Emmy award-winning composer and SBCC Trombone Choir member Carl Johnson will be premiering his new "Saturday Morning Suite," which includes classic Looney Tunes melodies, along with other Warner Bros. cartoons that he actually worked on, including "Tiny Toons," "Animaniacs," and "Pinky & The Brain." He has also made a special trombone octet arrangement of his original music for "Goliath's Theme" from the Warner Bros. animated series, "Gargoyles."
Cody Duke Anderson and Joseph Alex Reyes have arranged medleys of tunes by Alan Menkin and Stephen Schwartz from the Disney classics "The Lion King" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." And Joseph has also made a wonderful medley based off of "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
The SB Junior Trombone Choir will also join in on this celebration of animation with three works--"X-Men '97" and "Redwall," arranged by Stephen Hughes, and the "Pokemon" theme, arranged by Joseph Alex Reyes.
In addition, our "SlideWays" trombone quartet will showcase two classic tunes featured in the "Shrek" movies--Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" (arranged by Eric Heidner), and The Monkees' "I'm A Believer" (arranged by Stephen Hughes).
Even the SBCC Sackbut Quartet will get in on the animation action with two works transcribed by Nicholas Jurkowski, based off of medieval and renaissance paintings.
So come on out to SBCC's Fe Bland Forum on Sunday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. to celebrate America! Oh, and did I mention it's absolutely FREE? Hope to see you there!
