Monthly Lunch Support Group for Parents in the Middle
About this Event

Sandwich Club is a 90-minute monthly lunch support group for parents and carers who are balancing the needs of children, family life, work, and ageing parents.

It is a warm, facilitated peer support space for those stuck in the middle offering conversation, connection, practical reflection and a sandwich or two.

About this session...

Being needed by everyone can be exhausting.

Children need you. Ageing parents need you. Work needs you. Family systems need you. The calendar needs you. The group chat needs you. And, somewhere under all of that, you might be wondering when anyone is going to notice that you need support too.

Sandwich Club is a monthly pause point for parents and carers living in the pressure zone between raising children and supporting ageing parents.

Across 90 minutes, we gather over lunch to talk honestly about the stress bubble that builds when you are caring in multiple directions.

This is not a lecture. It is not a therapy group. It is not another thing you have to perform well at.

It is a supportive, lightly facilitated conversation with others who understand the juggle.

What we will explore...

This is an open ended group with free flowing dialogue. Each month, the conversation may include themes such as:

  • parenting while caring for ageing parents
  • guilt, resentment, grief and emotional fatigue
  • family expectations and sibling dynamics
  • boundaries that feel impossible but necessary
  • caring for yourself without feeling selfish
  • decision fatigue and the mental load
  • navigating aged care, health systems and family pressure
  • finding small ways to steady yourself before the bubble bursts

Who should attend...

This group is for parents, carers and family members who are:

  • raising children or supporting young adults while helping ageing parents or older relatives
  • managing work, family and caring responsibilities
  • feeling stretched, tired, conflicted or overloaded
  • wanting a supportive monthly space to talk and reset
  • looking for peer connection rather than formal therapy

Welcome and settling in

Info: Welcome to Sandwich Club. This is a space for those of us who find ourselves in the middle be it caring for children, supporting ageing parents, keeping work going, and somehow trying to remain human in the process. Today is not about having perfect answers. It is about having a place to be honest, heard and supported.

Group agreement

Info: We are not here to solve each other’s entire family system over sandwiches. Though if anyone has worked out how to do that, please see me afterwards. We are here to listen, reflect, share what helps, and remind each other that being stretched does not mean we are failing.
