About this Event
How do we build a culture in Ireland where people understand, value and have a relationship with the food produced around them? Where retailers and restaurants source and highlight local produce, and where communities take pride in the distinctive food traditions of their own places?
Ireland is rich in passionate food producers, distinctive traditions and world-class hospitality, yet our food culture can often feel fragmented. Across regions and communities, there are different stages of development, challenges, levels of support and differing narratives around the concept of "what is Irish food"?
This symposium brings together some of the people asking these questions and working towards the answers. Small and micro business owners, producers, chefs, policymakers, educators, state agencies, representatives of regional food communities, food advocates and citizens are invited to explore what it takes to build on a genuine and cohesive food culture in Ireland.
We are delighted to be joined by Caroline Hennessy as MC to guide us through our Samhain Symposium, and JP McMahon as keynote speaker. This keynote session will be followed by a break out into discussion at roundtables before a final panel discussion with JP McMahon, Mick Kelly, Paolo Ferrarini and Dee Laffan.
Registration and a networking lunch will begin at 1pm (included in the price of your ticket), with the Symposium starting at 2pm.
To create a strong foundation at home - one where people know, value, celebrate and support Irish food – we will tell a story to the world that will be a far more powerful and authentic one.
We are delighted to partner with Supervalu as headline sponsor for this year's Samhain Symposium, joined by Bank of Ireland and the Agri-Food Regulator as supporting sponsors.
