An honoring of the end of the harvest season
About this Event

As autumn gives way to winter, we arrive at one of the most evocative thresholds in the seasonal year. Samhain marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the darker half of the year—a time historically associated with changing seasons, uncertain boundaries, remembrance, and the relationship between the living and the dead.

This year, we’re gathering to explore the history and folklore of Samhain while making space for something our everyday lives often encourage us to avoid: death itself. This gathering is for women, creating a space to slow down together, connect, remember, and reflect on the turning of the season.

As we settle into the evening, we’ll also continue the handwork circle from our Autumn Equinox gathering. Bring your knitting, sewing, embroidery, drawing, or another quiet project to work on as we read, talk, and listen together. No experience or particular skill is needed—the point is simply to keep our hands occupied while we share the space.

You’re also invited to bring a photograph, small object, story, or other remembrance of someone who has died. Sharing is always optional. These remembrances can simply have a place among us for the evening.

Together, we’ll explore what it means to honor our dead without avoiding the reality of death, how acknowledging our own mortality might shape the way we live, and what it means to face death as a community rather than only as individuals. Autumn itself offers a reminder that death is not separate from life: what falls and decays nourishes what comes next, and our own lives belong to that same continuing cycle.

There is no pressure to share something deeply personal or to hold any particular belief about death or what comes after it. The heart of the evening is much simpler: sharing food, stories, history, remembrance, and conversation while making room for a part of life we too often push out of sight.

This gathering is part of the Mistress of the Hearth Wheel of the Year, a seasonal practice of slowing down, noticing where we are in the turning year, and finding meaning in history, nature, reflection, and community.

About the facilitator: Jillian Aurora is an aspiring historian, cleric, and creator of Mistress of the Hearth. She has facilitated Wheel of the Year gatherings for years, bringing together seasonal tradition, history, folklore, reflection, and community.

Participation donation: 30 lei donation is suggested per person; collected when you arrive.
