About this Event
Salt in the Water Reading Circle: Part II — The Reckoning
The Salt in the Water Reading Circle returns, bringing Memphis readers together for honest conversations about family, identity, relationships, and the stories that shape who we are.
This isn't a formal author talk or traditional book signing. It's an intimate space to reflect, exchange perspectives, and explore the experiences and questions that connect us.
Author Melissa N. Joiner will guide the conversation, but the heart of the gathering belongs to the participants.
You do NOT have to have read Salt in the Water or attended a previous Reading Circle to participate. No knowledge of the book or its stories is required. ALL ARE WELCOME!
If you'd like to explore Salt in the Water before or after our gathering, purchase your copy here.
Come ready to talk. Come ready to listen. Come with an open mind.
Part II — The Reckoning
Our gathering will draw inspiration from themes found in The Reckoning, including family truths, unspoken histories, generational patterns, complicated relationships, and the courage it takes to question what we've always believed.
These are universal experiences, and everyone is invited to contribute their own perspectives, whether they've read the book or not.
What to Expect
An intimate, relaxed gathering with guided discussion, meaningful conversations, thought-provoking questions, and opportunities to connect with other Memphis readers and the author.
Who Should Attend
Anyone who enjoys meaningful conversation, Black literature, Southern storytelling, cultural reflection, and exploring the experiences that shape our lives.
Whether you've read every page, haven't opened the book, or are hearing about Salt in the Water for the first time, there's a seat for you at the table.
Your Book
Reading the book is completely optional!
Books will also be available for purchase and signing at the event.
Please note: Our discussion may include spoilers and reflections on sensitive topics explored in the book.
