The Greek Community of Tasmania is excited to bring the Greek Film Festival to Hobart with a special screening of Saint Paisios (Άγιος Παΐσιος).Directed by Stamos Tsamis and written by Giorgos Tsiakkas, Saint Paisios tells the story of Arsenios Eznepidis and the journey that would lead him to become one of the most revered figures of the Greek Orthodox Church.
After his family is uprooted from Farasa in Cappadocia and arrives in Greece as refugees, the young Arsenios grows up in Konitsa, Epirus. Raised by his mother and grandmother, their deep faith and compassion have a lasting influence on his life.
As he grows older, Arsenios feels increasingly drawn towards monastic life. Following his military service, his journey takes him to Mount Athos, eventually settling at the Monastery of Philotheou, where he becomes a monk and takes the name Paisios.
The film follows this formative period of his life, tracing his family’s displacement, his upbringing and the experiences that shaped his spiritual path.
The film stars Prokopis Agathokleous, Nikitas Tsakiroglou and Christos Loulis.
