Safeguarding Children & Families Training

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Understand what safeguarding means, and the responsibilities we all have for protecting children
• Identify the four main categories of abuse, and the lesser known types of abuse
• Recognise common signs, symptoms and behavioural indicators of abuse
• Identify potential non-accidental injuries, including concerning bruising and unexplained injuries
• Understand some scenarios and how to manage real life situations
• Understand how children may communicate concerns or distress through behaviour as well as verbal disclosure
• Respond appropriately when a child makes a disclosure or a safeguarding concern arises
• Understand how to record, report and escalate safeguarding concerns
• Understand the role of LADO
• Understand Serious Agency Reviews, the process and what happens
• Develop an awareness of the legal and statutory guidelines that underpin safeguarding policy
• Understand the importance of professional boundaries, confidentiality and appropriate information sharing
• Recognise that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and that staff should never ignore or dismiss a concern
