There's a conversation you've been putting off. You know it won't go away if you ignore it. But every time you think about starting it, fear gets there first.
A hard conversation, done well, is one of the most intimate acts of love there is. It says, "I respect you more than I respect my fear." In this class you'll learn Sequoia's H.A.R.D. Conversations framework, and her five-step Clean-Up Process for repairing breakdowns, so the talks you've been dreading become the ones that bring you closer.
We'll close with a preview of Sacred Partnership, the "homing device" Sequoia teaches as the direction every relationship can grow toward, and a short ritual from the Valentine's weekend's closing ceremony.
Come as you are, partnered or single. Couples will practice with each other. Singles will practice in supported pairs or on their own, preparing for a conversation with a partner, family member, friend, or colleague. All practices are fully clothed and non-sexual.
In this class you'll:
- Learn H.A.R.D. Conversations: Having the talk, Acknowledging your vulnerability, Respecting the other person more than your fear, and Demonstrating courage
- Learn the five-step Clean-Up Process: Acknowledge, Apologize, Clean Up the Mess, Reflect What You Heard, and Recommit to Be Count-On-Able
- Practice a real hard conversation in a safe, supported space
- Learn to listen so the other person feels heard, understood, and valued, even when you don't agree
- Experience a mini-ritual preview of the Valentine's weekend
This class is for you if:
- There's a conversation you've been avoiding
- Your arguments go in circles and nothing gets repaired
- You struggle to apologize, or to receive an apology
- You want to be someone others can count on when things get hard
