Join us at Attollo HQ for a Professional Development Series session with Ryan Shank, founder and Executive Director of the Red Rose Film Festival.
Now in its seventh year, the Red Rose Film Festival is an international film festival right here in Lancaster, built around the belief that storytelling can strengthen communities, create opportunities, and drive real cultural and economic growth. From Best Picture to Best Student Film to The Red Rose Award honoring Central PA filmmakers, the festival has become a platform where creative careers are launched and community identity is celebrated.
Ryan's own path to building it reflects the festival's spirit. His career has taken him from Warner Bros. and the 2016 U.S. Women's Open to small business development, nonprofit leadership, independent production, and the classroom, where he teaches Professional Practices at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. What ties it all together is a philosophy he lives by: meaningful opportunities are not discovered fully formed. They are built through trust, persistence, relationships, and a willingness to start before you have all the answers.
In this session, Ryan will share what it took to bring the Red Rose Film Festival to life, how he thinks about building creative careers in a place like Lancaster, and what young people can learn from a career that has never followed a straight line.
