About this Event
Two hundred years after Beethoven’s death, the Symphony of the Potomac celebrates the revolutionary composer who transformed orchestral music—and the generations who carried that revolution forward. Bookended by two all-Beethoven programs, our 2026–27 season travels from Beethoven’s heroic innovation through the fire of the Russian tradition and Dvořák’s vibrant Bohemian voice.
In this concert, we journey beyond Beethoven into the vivid world of Russian orchestral music. Borodin’s pageantry, Shostakovich’s wit, and Tchaikovsky’s sweeping struggle with fate come together in a program filled with brilliant color, irresistible energy, and emotional power.
Borodin: Overture to Prince Igor
Shostakovich: Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Rachel Franklin
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5
