As part of his ongoing Rumiverse—an attempt to bring Rumi closer to Indian audiences through translations, performances, and dialogue—Ashwin Afraad presents Rumi Hai, an intimate mehfil dedicated to the life and poetry of Jalaluddin Rumi.
Performed in the traditional Naqqali format, an ancient Persian storytelling art form, the show narrates Rumi’s life through his original Farsi ghazals, accompanied by their Hindi-Urdu translations and interpretations. Written and performed by Ashwin Afraad, who has been learning Farsi and translating Rumi’s poetry for over four years, Rumi Hai brings together storytelling, poetry and performance to explore the life, ideas and works of one of Persian literature’s most celebrated poets.
The 70-minute performance will be followed by a discussion on the life and works of Rumi.
