About this Event
Clarksburg, West Virginia chosen for Inaugural “Ruck for Recovery” Veteran - 50 State 5K in November
Clarksburg’s Veteran Memorial Park was chosen as the first stop for Sgt. Melvin Gatewood Ruck/Walk/Fun Run - 50 State 5K campaign on Saturday, November 7, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
This event is to honor SGT Melvin Gatewood (Ret.), U.S. Army veteran and co-founder of Operation Continue Service from Tennessee.
“I came home from Iraq and had to learn how to keep going...”
This meaningful community event was created to continue spreading hope and unity among veterans and communities across the country while honoring his mission and legacy.
Rucking the Trails WV | Ruck for Recovery - Veteran 5K at the Veterans Memorial Park will be the FIRST in this 50-state campaign.
Participants will take part in a 5K ruck, walk, or fun run through the beautiful, scenic Veterans Memorial Park and South Harrison Rails to Trails, symbolizing the burdens veterans and individuals carry and the support OCS offers to the community.
The event serves not only as a tribute to SGT Gatewood's service and vision but also as a fundraiser to support Operation Continue Services’ mission: To remember the fallen and motivate those who still stand.
Sgt. Melvin Gatewood is a combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient, a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, and the founder of Operation Continue Service. He lives now to honor the ones who did not come home, stand with the people still here, make asking for help normal, and leave communities able to do it without him.
The RuckWV team is looking for 5K participants, vendors, food trucks, donations, sponsors, and moral support.
