This session we're discussing Etaf Rum's A Woman Is No Man, the story of three generations of Palestinian-American women in Brooklyn, caught between inherited silence and the desire to be heard. Grandmother, mother, and daughter each carry their own version of the same struggle: to speak, to choose, to exist beyond what's expected of them. Rum, drawing on her own life, gives voice to a story too often left untold.
It's a novel about how silence gets passed down, and how reading, memory, and speaking out become acts of resistance in themselves. A fitting continuation of our Women Writing Resistance journey.
