Writers including Sigurd Olson, Eric Sevareid, Maude Kegg, Justine Kerfoot, the Jaques, Helen Hoover, and Grace Lee Nute helped create the sense of place that we call Northern Minnesota. These men and women wrote of the people who lived in the region, those who explored the wilderness and came later, and how our current understanding of these lands came to be. Some of the writers, such as Olson, are still well-known today, while others, such as Charles Hallock, have been mostly forgotten. Perhaps a new readership awaits these men and women who helped define Minnesota.
