About this Event
Celebrate the people and purpose behind afterschool at Rooted, Connected, Inspired. This special in-person, experience invites afterschool program providers to step outside the everyday, connect with colleagues, and recharge through exploration, reflection, and outdoor learning in the unique landscape of Big Marsh. Together, we’ll celebrate the vital role of afterschool, strengthen connections across our field, and recognize the importance of investing in the people who create meaningful opportunities for Illinois' young people. This experience is presented in partnership with Chicago Adventure Therapy, bringing their expertise in outdoor learning and experiential connection to this special Lights On Afterschool celebration.
Choose Your Adventure at Big Marsh Park
As part of Rooted, Connected, Inspired, participants will spend one hour engaging in a Chicago Adventure Therapy-led outdoor experience. During registration, please select one of the following activities:
Hiking
Enjoy a guided walk through the unique natural landscape of Big Marsh Park. This experience offers opportunities for conversation, reflection, and connection while exploring the park’s trails. Suitable for all experience levels and paces.
Team Building
Participate in interactive group challenges designed to strengthen communication, collaboration, and connection with fellow afterschool professionals. These activities are accessible, engaging, and require no special skills or experience.
Biking (Limited to 15 Participants)
Explore Big Marsh Park by bike on a guided ride through the park’s trail system. Bikes and helmets will be provided. Participants should be comfortable riding a bicycle on paved and gravel trails. Space is limited to 15 participants.
