Join us for Root to Rise, an empowering workshop led by a licensed Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and Pilates Instructor. During this interactive experience, you’ll gain a better understanding of pelvic floor health, including its role in core strength, posture, balance, bladder control, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, and overall movement.
Following the educational session, you’ll participate in a gentle, all-levels Pilates class designed to activate your deep core muscles, improve stability, and help you build strength from the inside out.
Whether you’re experiencing pelvic floor concerns, are postpartum, navigating perimenopause or menopause, or simply want to move with greater confidence, this workshop is for you.
What to expect:
● Pelvic floor health education from a Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapist
● A beginner-friendly Pilates workout focused on deep core activation
● Practical tips you can incorporate into your daily routine
● A supportive, judgment-free environment where questions are encouraged
No previous Pilates experience is required—just come ready to learn, move, and reconnect with your body.

Meet your facilitators:
Mel Chesnut is a pelvic health occupational therapist & dedicated to providing culturally competent, unbiased, affirming care for the community. She obtained her undergraduate degrees in Health Science and Psychology from the University of Michigan - Dearborn & Baker College and her master's in occupational therapy from Baker College of Flint. Melissa has varied experience in multiple settings ranging from outpatient pediatrics to mental health services. She completed pelvic health training through Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and is a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist - Individual through the Arizona Trauma Institute. In her free time, she loves the sun on her face, traveling, gardening, crochet, playing video games, being outside & being with her people!
Valarie James is a licensed therapist and fitness professional dedicated to helping individuals transform their relationships with their minds and bodies. As the Owner of Inner Fitness Counseling and Wellness and VSJ Fitness Studio, she blends therapy, movement, and community to create a one-of-a-kind wellness experience.
A 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and Certified Mat Pilates Instructor, Valarie creates dynamic, inclusive classes that encourage participants to embrace their bodies, build confidence, and move with intention.
