Celebrate with other PIOs and Public Relations communicators as Tammy Malphurs, Director of Volusia County Beach Safety, receives the Roger Pynn APR, CPRC, Great Communicator Award. This top honor by the Volusia/Flagler Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA-VF) is the only local award to recognize community service plus a lifetime of achievement for communicators or public relations practitioners.
The picturesque venue, “The Jack,” is a new two-story building overlooking Jackie Robinson Ballpark. RSVP by October 16 at https://fpravf.org. The cost is $30 for FPRA members, $40 for non-members and $15 for students. Hot meals and free parking are included in the cost.
Throughout her career with Volusia County Beach Safety, Malphurs has consistently demonstrated that effective communication can save lives, build public trust and strengthen communities, while serving as a calm and compassionate voice during emergencies or routine operations. Malphurs is the department's first female director, who began as a lifeguard in 1997 and rose through the ranks to become director in 2024. Whether responding to hurricanes, dangerous surf conditions, shark incidents, lightning strikes or busy holiday weekends, she has become the trusted source of information for residents, visitors and media outlets.
