Dive into real talk and hands-on exploring how to make AI trustworthy and responsible. Keynotes from NEC Labs and Boeing, 35+ speakers.
About this Event

Two days on building AI that engineers, scientists and the public can rely on — and on being honest about where the line is.

The Rocky Mountain Workshop on Trustworthy and Responsible AI brings 35+ speakers to CU Boulder's East Campus from CU Boulder, UIUC, UT Austin and the University of Utah, alongside practitioners from Adobe, AWS, Boeing, Intel, NEC and many more.

Full programme, speakers and logistics:

Keynotes
  • Haifeng Chen — Head of Data Science and System Security, NEC Laboratories America. Trustworthy agents through monitoring and guardrails.
  • Dragos Margineantu — Senior Technical Fellow and AI Chief Technologist, Boeing. Trustworthy AI in safety-critical aerospace engineering.

Why industry should come
  • Learn the state of the art, from the people building it. Research talks from 25+ faculty cover testing and benchmarking AI agents, verification and guardrails, and AI security at scale.
  • See the open problems before they become your problems. Hallucinations in specialized domains, verifying AI-written code, governance gaps, and expertise erosion on teams. These are the risks companies are running into now.
  • Join a community of practice. Practitioners from Adobe, AWS, Intel, NEC, Boeing and others will share what's working, what isn't, and how they're handling it — alongside the researchers who can help solve it.

How the two days work
  • Day 1 — Wednesday 4 November, research track. Faculty talks, the NEC Labs keynote, and student research posters. 8:00 am breakfast through the evening banquet, which closes at 7:00 pm.
  • Day 2 — Thursday 5 November, practice track. The Boeing keynote, hands-on mini-tutorials, industry and academic panels, and community best practices. 8:00 am breakfast, finishing by 3:00 pm.

You are welcome at either day or both.

Day-two working sessions for industry teams
  • Agentic coding without the slop — practices for getting verifiable code from AI agents, including how to review code you didn't write
  • Write your own AI governance — a working session that ends with a draft AI policy for your team
  • Bring your own problem — a clinic where you arrive with a real challenge and leave with an expert contact and a next step
  • Tool triage — a straight assessment of which AI tools are worth adopting, and how to judge new ones six months from now
  • Keeping your own judgment — how teams can collaborate with AI without outsourcing the thinking

Who should register

Academic applications closed on 7 October and invited participants were announced. Industry participants do not need to apply — you are already accepted as a VIP Industry Guest. Register here with your company email address so we can confirm your affiliation.

Attendance is free, including meals.

Speaking on a panel

We are looking for industry voices on four panels: AI governance, the future of work, durable skills in the GenAI era, and agentic AI in low-resource environments. Write to Danny Dig at [email protected].
