About this Event
Join DC Bird Alliance for a special Birding DC 2026 walk at the Rock Creek Park Maintenance Yard, a well-known spot for catching the movement of birds through DC during fall migration.
We’ll take our time exploring the surrounding woodland and forest edges, looking and listening for warblers, thrushes, vireos, woodpeckers and other resident and migrating birds making their way through the park.
All levels welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available.
🎒 What to Bring
- Layers! Fall mornings can start cool and warm up quickly.
- Water and a snack
- Comfortable, sturdy shoes suitable for natural and potentially uneven surfaces
- Binoculars, if you have them
- Insect repellent and sun protection as needed
♿ Accessibility
🐢 Pace: Relaxed birding pace with frequent stops for observation and identification
📏 Distance: Approximately 1–2 miles, depending on bird activity and group pace
🪨 Terrain: A mix of paved and natural surfaces. Participants should expect some uneven ground, roots, rocks, and potentially muddy areas depending on recent weather.
⛰️ Elevation: Some slopes and changes in elevation may be encountered.
🪑 Rest Areas: Limited seating is available along the route.
♿ Wheelchair Access: Portions of the area may be accessible, but the complete bird walk route may include natural surfaces that are not suitable for all mobility devices.
🚻 Restrooms: Restroom availability may be limited. Please plan accordingly.

Space is limited and registration is required. If your plans change, please cancel your registration as soon as possible so someone on the waitlist has an opportunity to join us.
