Give your Scouts and Explorers the chance to climb, explore, and build confidence on real rock. Our Rock Climbing Skills Days at Great Almscliff Crag offer hands‑on instruction in a spectacular outdoor setting, led by qualified volunteers from the Harrogate & Nidderdale District Climbing Team.
About this event:
Scouts and Explorers will learn essential climbing skills including:
- Fitting harnesses and helmets
- Belaying and rope management
- Movement on rock and route reading
- Abseiling and safe descent
- Working as a team and supporting others
Each session is designed to be fun, challenging, and accessible for all experience levels — whether it’s a first time on the rock or a chance to develop existing skills.
Great Almscliff Crag provides a perfect natural playground, with a wide range of climbs that allow Scouts to progress at their own pace while enjoying one of Yorkshire’s most iconic landscapes.

Booking Information
This event is limited to 15 participants, with a minimum of 10 bookings required by the closing date. Please note that tickets are non‑refundable after the closing date.
The cost is £12.00 per participant.
Adult volunteers who are not taking part in the activity attend free of charge.
An invoice will be issued after the event has taken place.
Supervision:
Groups booking onto these events must ensure that a leader (Leader in Charge) is present at all times. This includes supervising participants during any periods when they are not actively climbing or when activities are paused, such as breaks or lunchtime.
Equipment:
Technical equipment will be provided but please come dressed for the weather as we will be outside for the activity. Please also ensure to wear shoes with a stiff sole, e.g. walking boots or even your own climbing shoes, which will provide more support on the rock face.
What to bring:
Please bring a packed lunch and a drinks bottle for the day. There is also small shop at Brimham Rocks which sells hot drinks and ice cream if you need to recover after the event.
Where do we meet?
We will be meeting up at the Layby on Merrybank Ln/ Low Ln at 9:45 for a 10:00 start.
