With celebrating our 11th year in business, we are very excited to announce that this year's annual student showcase theme is "Dancers of the Roaring 20's!""The Roaring Twenties was a vibrant decade of exuberant optimism, cultural dynamism, and rapid mass consumerism in the Western world that followed World War I. Spanning from 1920 to 1929, the era is famous for the rise of jazz music, flappers, the expansion of electricity and automobiles, and the illicit nightlife fueled by Prohibition." -Encyclopedia Britannica
"Following the devastation of WWI, society sought to let loose. Traditional Victorian norms were pushed aside, particularly by the younger generation. This liberation was symbolized by "flappers," independent young women who defied societal conventions by wearing shorter hemlines, bobbing their hair, listening to jazz, smoking, and drinking in speakeasies. Women's rights also made a massive leap with the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote in the United States."
