We spent crores to host Messi for a few days, and that’s fine. But at the same time, Indian football is struggling just to survive, fighting for sponsors and basic support. In a country of 1.4 billion people, the world’s most followed sport can’t protect itself at home. We passionately support clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United, yet barely look at what’s happening on our own turf. If we genuinely want to see an Indian footballer shine on the global stage in the coming years, we need to start speaking up and supporting Indian football now, not when it’s too late.
