River Spirit: A Chamizal Chapter 🌊What does it mean to call a place home when its boundaries have changed, but its communities remain connected?
Join us at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Chamizal National Memorial for the opening of two exhibitions. In the Visitor Center, Mitsumasa “Mitsu” Overstreet’s River Spirit explores family, relocation, and belonging through work inspired by personal reflections from the El Paso and Ciudad Juárez community. In the Franklin G. Smith Gallery, Aquí Estamos : We Are Here brings together artists whose work reflects the culture, experiences, and creative identity of our border region.
Chamizal’s history includes a shifting river and a boundary dispute resolved through diplomacy. These exhibitions invite us to consider the people who lived alongside that history and the connections that continue across the border today.
