Join us on a spectacular post-turkey competitive trail ride at Estrella Mountain Park on November 28th and 29th. Ride one day or both days. This is a full division ride which offers something for everyone. New riders, first-time competitors and those new to NATRC will find a division that suits them and their horse. This is an excellent opportunity to give young, older or less experienced horses an opportunity to compete at a level and distance that fits them. DIVISIONS AND CLASSES:
“A” Ride – This is a ride that is judged over 2 days. It has more combined mileage. Total points and scores are tabulated and awarded at the end of Day 2. One payment covers both days.
“B” Ride – This is a one-day ride. You can enter both Saturday and Sunday or just one day. Each day is judged and awarded separately.
Leisure Division – This division is judged by one judge and is scored as a team. Horses must be a minimum of 48 months (4 years) at the time of the ride. This is a great way to see the trails with less stringent criteria and a slower pace. Mileage in this division is 8-12 miles per day and the average pace in the range of 3-4.5 mph range. Only one-day (B Ride) is available in this division but you can enter both days.
The following divisions are judged by two judges – A horsemanship judge and a veterinary judge. Horse and rider are scored separately. (Yep, your horse can beat you at this ride).
Novice Division – A division for younger or less experienced riders. Horses entered must be a minimum of 48 months old (4 years) at the time of the ride. Total mileage in this division is 30-40 miles for an A ride and 15-24 miles for a B ride. Mileage shall not exceed 24 miles in one day or 40 miles in 2 days. We are only offering one day “B” rides at this location for Novice due to terrain. Riders may enter one or both days. The pace is 3.5 to 5 miles per hour.
Competitive Pleasure (CP) Division – This is a good division for those that are experienced but want to ride the same mileage, trails and pace as the Novice division. It is a good choice for experienced riders, bringing in younger or less experienced horses. It also allows an experienced rider to ride with, and mentor, a novice ride team on the same trails but with more stringent criteria. Daily and total mileage will adhere to criteria specified for Novice Division. Both the two day “A” ride and the one day “B” ride will be offered.
Open Division – Go for the El Dorado Gold! This is a great option for experienced riders and horses and those seeking breed awards for mileage. This division will be 50-60 miles for an A ride and 25-35 miles for a B ride. Mileage in this division shall be a minimum of 15 miles on any one day and the average pace shall be in the range of 4-6 miles per hour. Horses entered must be a minimum of 60 months (5 years) on the date of the ride.
Distance Only (DO) - Don’t let the idea of “Competition” keep you away. If you want to ride to see what it’s like WITHOUT the competition part, or if you are mentoring a new rider, try the “Just DO it” option. The DO option lets you ride and get credit for the miles without participating in the “judging “part. This is yet another way we try to encourage new people to come try the sport. Riders choosing the DO option will receive milage credit but will not be eligible for placing in classes. The REAL idea is to come and have fun with your horse for a weekend!
