What happens when folk traditions from Odisha, Jharkhand and Maharashtra come together on one stage?Find out at Rhythms of Living Heritage, a national folk dance festival bringing together performers from different regions and traditions at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Over two evenings, audiences can experience the energy and distinctive styles of Mayurbhanj Chhau from Odisha, Seraikela Chhau and Purulia Chhau from Jharkhand, and Dhol Pawri and Madal Nritya from Nashik, Maharashtra.
The festival is also an opportunity to look beyond the performances. An exhibition of Seraikela, Purulia and Bohada masks will offer a closer look at the masks and visual traditions connected with these forms, alongside a photography exhibition on living heritage.
From masked dance and powerful movement to music, rhythm and community traditions, the festival brings together very different cultural practices while highlighting what connects them: the way knowledge, skills and traditions continue to be passed from one generation to the next.
