About Rhythm Workshop
This workshop is an open, hands-on exploration of rhythm designed for musicians, dancers, and curious beginners alike. No experience necessary, and all disciplines and levels are welcome. Through call-and-response, movement, and group exercises, we'll build an intuitive, body focused sense of rhythm that goes beyond counting and into feeling.
About this Session
In this session, we'll dig into the realm of odd meter. Looking at basic time keeping patterns and and some advanced concepts over 3, 5, & 7 beats in a bar.
We'll close with an open jam, so instrumentalists, bring your axe and be ready to put these concepts into practice alongside the group.
About our Facilitator
Michael Morales is a drummer since childhood and an educator with over 10 years of experience in K-12 music education, facilitating workshops and trainings for educators throughout his career. He is the founder of Rhythm Workshop, a rhythm education curriculum with a 10-year history of engaging musicians, dancers, singers, videographers, music lovers and communities across New York City. RWS has been hosted at The City College of NY, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, Ripley Grier Studios, and The Jazz Gallery. Now at our new UWS location All Angel's Church.

Intro and Three
Info: This will intro the class to old and new participants and get us to a common language. Before moving on break down a basic 3/4 time signature and some rhythmic devices which can be played or referenced to keep the time, support other musicians, and play around the time.

Info: Here we will break down the concept of 5/4 from the famous Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" to some lesser known somes utlizing 5's. Breaking down these time keeping devices and rhythmic devices to bring to your 5/4 playing.

Info: Here we will break down some examples of playing in 7 complete with listening examples from world traditions and popular music. Then running through similar rhythmic devices and how they flow over 7's.
