RHYMES & BEATS: Playing With Words When Rhythm Counts at Eastside Jams

The magical art of stringing together words to elicit emotions and visual images in listeners’ minds is the work of Poets, Spoken Word Artists, Song Lyricists, and Hip-Hop Rappers. How does one start a new piece? What are the roots of contemporary hip-hop lyricists? How do lyrics relate to the beat? What’s ‘free-styling’ and how can you learn to do it?

Learn about lyric writing, improv, and drop some of your own rhymes! Join us at Eastside Jams at BelRed Arts Studio for open mic night and an interactive session where Global Heat band shares their songwriting and improv tips; and also performs short demos. Whether you're a seasoned wordsmith or just love the groove, this is your spot to catch an intimate workshop with members of an award-winning band.
