FRIDAY JUNE 5 • RHONEYMEADE FEST TAKES OVER DOWNTOWN STATE COLLEGEFREE + FAMILY FRIENDLY ALL DAY INTO THE NIGHT
Rhoneymeade Fest returns to Hiester Street and Manny's Live Performance Space on Friday, June 5 for a full day of free programming built around performance, participation, and community gathering.
We begin at 1PM outdoors on Hiester Street, with activities running throughout the afternoon at East End Social and inside Manny’s. From 1PM–5:30PM, Manny’s will host rotating live performances, workshops, and artist-led happenings while outdoor programming fills the block with live painting, pop-up activity, and roaming music from NYC’s beloved HONK Family Band.
Then at 5:30PM, Secret Planet takes over the street stage for an evening of global sounds and downtown celebration.
As always, we kick things off with local favorites Fez — one of our absolute favorite bands to share with a crowd.
From there we welcome Paolo Angeli, the singular Sardinian composer and instrument builder whose custom prepared guitar creates the sound of an entire orchestra — blending Sardinian folk tradition, free improvisation, and experimental composition into something unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Next is Los Cumpleaños — Tropical Dance Music // Soundscapes // Experimental Party Music from NYC. We are thrilled to have the energetic Brooklyn-based quartet bring their infectious mix of Colombian dance music, downtown punk, and psych to Hiester Street.
Closing the outdoor concert is Loboko, guitar-driven-dance-band from New York City that features Congolese guitar viruoso and vocalist, Yohni Djungu Sungu, Loboko’s unique style is rooted in Congo’s ubiquitous soukous sound, one of Africa’s most popular musical exports that’s conquered dance from France to Colombia. Loboko filters classic Congolese soukous rhythms through NYC’s African and Afro-Caribbean diaspora, setting up a joyful transatlantic reverberation that connects Kinshasa, Paris, Palenque, NYC, and everywhere else where soukous is danced.
And when the street sets wrap, we keep going inside Manny’s with a proper late-night dance party featuring NYC favorite DJ Modrums, spinning global groove all on wax.
This entire Friday lineup is FREE and family friendly thanks to the support of Downtown State College and Comet Properties, who have helped us bring this Secret Planet street festival to life at East End Social.
