Join us at SMUSH Gallery in Jersey City on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 12:00–3:30 PM for a creative afternoon of sustainable fashion and hands-on design.
Bring a sweater, sweatshirt, cardigan, or another cozy clothing item from your closet and transform it into something uniquely yours. During this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore upcycling techniques using patches, fabric paint, embellishments, hand sewing, and other creative customization methods.
Whether you want to refresh an old favorite, repair a well-loved piece, or experiment with DIY fashion, the Sweater Weather Workshop is all about creativity, sustainability, and community.
This small-group workshop is limited to 12 participants, allowing time for personalized guidance. Meet fellow fashion and sustainability enthusiasts and leave with a one-of-a-kind piece redesigned by you.

✂️ What You’ll Do
Instead of throwing clothing away, upcycling allows you to creatively transform garments you already own.
Bring a sweater, sweatshirt, cardigan, or another cozy clothing item from your closet and experiment with beginner-friendly customization techniques, including:
- Simple hand sewing
- Fabric glue application
- Patches, trims, and scrap fabrics
- Rhinestones, beads, buttons, and other embellishments
- Creative alterations and decorative details
Creativity is encouraged. Perfection is not required.
🧶 What to Bring
Choose something you’re ready to experiment with or give new life to.
Good options include:
- Sweatshirts
- Sweaters with a stable, tightly knit surface
- Cardigans
- Knit vests
- Fleece pullovers
- Cozy tote bags or accessories
For the easiest experience, avoid delicate cashmere, extremely stretchy garments, and loose or chunky knits that may unravel when cut.
All customization materials will be provided. You are also welcome to bring personal patches, trims, fabric scraps, or embellishments you would like to incorporate.
Optional: You may bring your own sewing machine if you would like to use it during the workshop.
