About this Event
“Not worth a continental” was a common phrase during the American Revolution. Imagine being paid in Continental currency that was based on a country that might not exist in a year. Imagine if you crossed over to Pennsylvania and there was a different currency!
Even the term “legal tender,” which is on our money today, was a dirty term because that meant someone HAD TO accept the currency, even if they didn’t want to.Betty DeSapio, the Kingwood Township Historian, will explore the totally crazy world of currency our early American ancestors faced at the time of the American Revolution, when no one could rely on a currency’s value from day to day.
