Burying Pains: Retelling the Culture of Violence under the Martial Law Era in PampangaMartial Law under the Marcos Dictatorship remains a contested space in the current historical narrative. During his lifetime, the former dictator used megalithic structures to paint an imaginary grandeur to cover up a massive violation of human rights and large scale plunder. In the present time, a massive disinformation campaign and historical revisionist propaganda painted the former dictator as a hero that even led to his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, while his son won an overwhelming landslide victory in Pampanga of all places during the last presidential elections. Behind all of this, the agony and pains of the victims, especially here in Pampanga, were not yet healed by justice.
This study by Joel S. Regala, a retired History professor at Holy Angel University, sought to delve into the different facets of violence experienced by the Martial Law Victims in Pampanga, connect the gaps between history and the Kapampángan youth of today, and perhaps lead to a possible historical closure and a genuine national healing among the Kapampángan people.
