About this Event
Experience an afternoon of sound, tradition, and experimentation featuring Filipino American electronic artist Luzi Kidlat and award-winning composer and instrumentalist Paul Cosme, culminating in a special closing performance by Hawaiʻi Rondalla.
This live performance brings together contemporary electronic soundscapes, voice, field recordings, traditional instruments, and Southeast Asian gong traditions. Luzi Kidlat’s ceremonial ambient music draws from her Filipino cultural roots and experiences across Hawaiʻi and the Philippines, while Paul Cosme’s compositions explore the intersections of Asian and Western musical traditions, with a particular focus on Philippine music and kulintang.
The afternoon concludes with a special performance by Hawaiʻi Rondalla, celebrating the rich musical heritage of the Philippines through the sounds of traditional Filipino string instruments.
Together, these performances create a dynamic sound experience connecting cultural memory, contemporary technology, and evolving Filipino musical traditions—from ancestral practices to new sonic futures.
Presented by the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu and the Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA).
