We at The Sustainability Project (TSP) have been attending networking initiatives for close to 20 years, and despite some slow, progressive incremental change that has the potential to create a brighter future, we have been doing some thinking recently about a gap we’ve seen:What opportunities can we offer each other when we think about the system around us, work together, and connect like mycelia.
Invited Non-profit groups will join us to dig deeper into Social Capital: what’s keeping us all connected, motivated, in an attempt to grow stronger side by side as we face new challenges and embrace new opportunities.
Topics for discussion and learning include, but are not limited to:
-Do we all have the right skills to face into the near future?
-Are our groups seeing side benefits (co-benefits?) of the work we’re currently doing... that aligns well with other groups?
-Are there enough committed people doing our projects, and where can we gain/share volunteers or staff through collaboration?
-Can we access our partners quickly when we face “challenging times” like food scarcity, climate adaptation - or a big opportunity that addresses our issues?
-Are we resourced well enough to engage our constituents about resilience, climate adaptation, climate change, food security, biodiversity, regeneration and our priorities?
-Where do we access today’s grants for sustainable funding?
-Do we know our communities well enough to act holistically?
Join us on Nov 25th from 1pm - 5pm at Grey Roots to achieve the following:
*FIND PARTNERS: where our work aligns, or where a “sum is greater than its parts”.
*COMMUNICATE your need or gap to be filled
*MULTISOLVE: spark a collab, or think holistically to (re)invigorate any aligned projects
*HELP: listen for what your neighbouring organizations are doing in parallel, and share something you know
*UPDATE your contacts for current non-profit community-based thought leaders (we all need our contacts refreshed every once in a while)
*GET INSPIRED by a multisolving non-profit – Save Georgian Bay – that took on the Provincial and Federal governments to challenge a local energy project to do the work.
*SHARE KNOWLEDGE by storying your success, a challenge, a woe or a celebration (short stories please)
*BUILD SOCIAL CAPITAL gained by growing trust with others in-person
*LEARN a new skill or thought that you can take home and share,
PROVE/DISPROVE THE SLOW INCREMENTALISM THAT WE ARE SEEING: Share your stories of success or challenges.
