Meet at 10am... at the Herring Point parking lot near the bathrooms. Pups welcome!https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/delaware/walking-dunes-trail
Discover this 2.6-mile loop trail near Lewes, Delaware. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 48 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, mountain biking, and road biking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Depending on which direction you head out, you will be either starting with a forest walk that is pretty close to a nearby state park road or ending with it. This route is popular with bikers also.
Accessibility: There are at least 3 designated accessible spaces in the paved parking lots off of Cape Henlopen State Park Road at the north end of the trail. At least 2 of them are van-accessible with a striped access aisle. The trail surface is pavement, crushed shells, or a natural (sand) surface. It is typically 3 to 5 feet wide (with many wider passing spaces). There is a double track along some of the trail, which may have a raised center section and create an uneven cross slope difficult to navigate.
The entire trail is estimated to be in the mostly gentle grade category (5% or less). All-terrain tires or motorized equipment may be needed for the unpaved surfaces.
There are benches along some of the route for resting. There are wheelchair-accessible bathrooms at the north end of the trail. The nature center is wheelchair-accessible.
