FAIR HOUSING RIGHTS: FROM PAPER TO REAL LIFE
“APPROVED DOESN’T ALWAYS MEAN PROVIDED.”
Join DFOWW Incorporated for a practical housing education workshop designed to help renters better understand what to document, what questions to ask, what records to keep, and where to look for qualified housing advocacy and legal resources.
YOU MAY HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT TO DO WHEN:
• You are having a dispute with your landlord or property owner.
• Your landlord or property owner will not address a housing problem.
• Your reasonable accommodation request is denied.
• You are told your medical or other documentation is not enough.
• Someone gives you important information over the phone but will not put it in writing.
• Your request is approved, but you still cannot access what you need.
• You receive a housing decision but do not understand what happens next.
• You have filed a housing complaint and do not know what to expect.
• You need help understanding what information you should save and keep.
WHAT WE WILL COVER:
• Landlord-tenant disputes
• Reasonable accommodations
• Housing documentation
• Fair housing complaints and investigations
• Important timelines and deadlines
• Documenting telephone conversations
• Following up in writing
• What records you should keep
• What happens after an accommodation is approved
• Conciliation and the housing complaint process
• Finding qualified housing advocacy and legal resources
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This workshop is for renters, Section 8 and Housing Choice Voucher participants, people with disabilities, seniors, families, caregivers, and others experiencing housing challenges.
It is also designed for case managers, therapists, social-service professionals, healthcare professionals, and others who help people navigate housing issues.
WHY THIS MATTERS
October is Health Literacy Month.
At DFOWW Incorporated, we believe health literacy is not only about understanding information from a doctor. It can also mean being able to ask questions, understand complicated systems, keep important records, recognize what information matters, and know where to turn for help.
Housing can affect a person's health, safety, financial stability, and overall well-being.
That is why FAIR HOUSING RIGHTS: FROM PAPER TO REAL LIFE is our featured October education program.
