About this Event

Dates: Sat Jul 18, 9am-12pm. Sales end: Jul 11, 5pm. Ticket: $40 + Eventbrite fees. Instructor: Alex Sepel. Materials fee: $3. Skills Needed: none. Class Limit: 8. Class Location: 2nd floor, large weaving room Minimum Age: Any

Learn two related styles of historical counted thread embroidery: Blackwork and voided work. "Counted thread" means that you create very even, precise stitches by counting the threads of the fabric like a grid. The stitches are simple lines, but the historical designs from the 1500s and 1600s in Europe are elaborate. You can create the most detailed images just by following a pattern and counting one stitch at a time. We will learn 3 stitches: Backstitch, Double-running stitch, and long-arm cross stitch. You'll start a band sampler in class, which you can complete later at home and turn into a bookmark. You’ll also create your own design or modify an existing one using free software or grid paper.

A Minor is welcome to register for this class but must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Supplies to Bring:

  • scissors for thread
  • reading glasses if needed
  • pencil
  • tablet or laptop for digital pattern making (grid paper will be available as an alternative)
  • snack and beverages if desired
  • $3 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash, Venmo or check only accepted.

Problems registering? Contact the Lorain Pettit at [email protected].

Questions about this class? Contact the instructor, Alex Sepela at [email protected].

If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.

Depending on the CDC Guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
