About this Event

A roundtable discussion featuring David Cabrelli, Srravya Chandhiramowuli, Fabiola Mancinelli, and Anna Oechslen, chaired by Andreas Hackl.

Over the past few years, remote work has become normalised as an important aspect of people’s lives across different professions, social classes and geographic regions. Remote work is transforming how people move, connect, and sustain their livelihoods. Once tied to specific workplaces or (national) labour markets, professionals now navigate dispersed geographies of work. Yet these dispersed geographies remain embedded in persistent territorial logics: visa regimes, taxation systems, and national labour laws create friction even as digital platforms promise seamless connectivity. The promise of 'work from anywhere' collides with the reality that bodies, rights, and protections remain bound to specific places.

In this roundtable discussion, we explore connections between remote work and diverse mobilities. We bring insights from case studies on digital nomads, displaced people working remotely, and legal perspectives into conversation around these questions: What new forms of (im)mobility is digitally enabled remote work generating? How is this transformation of work shaping the ways people imagine, desire, and practice (im)mobility across different life stages and contexts?

This is a free event, which means we overbook to allow for no-shows and to avoid empty seats. While we generally do not have to turn people away, this does mean we cannot guarantee everyone a place. Admission is on a first come, first served basis.
