About this Event
This will be an installation comprising large draped and hung fabrics visibly mended and patched, made up of textiles and materials sourced from thrift stores, garage sales, and trash cans. The decorative and practical fabrics meant for use as bedding and upholstery, or cut for clothing, are intended to be rearranged, added to, or harvested from. They are infinite fabrics that are never finished, made from an inexhaustible source of materials. There will be newly made items of clothing, some brought back to a wearable state and fit for purpose, and smaller household objects as well.
This body of work is presented as something that we can all participate in. The viewer is invited to sew, make, save, reuse, alter, collect, and preserve, and in that way take direct part in the transmission of culture, craft, and experience.
An opening reception will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with refreshments and practical prizes. Artist John Bridges will be present to answer questions about his installation, which will remain on view throughout October during regular store hours, noon to 6:00 p.m., seven days a week.
