Remembering Rohan De Saram is a special memorial concert presented by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on 23 October 2026, honouring one of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated musicians.An internationally acclaimed cellist, Rohan De Saram enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than six decades. Trained in Italy and mentored by legendary musicians including Pablo Casals, he became renowned worldwide for his artistry, intellectual depth, and championing of contemporary music. A longtime member of the Arditti Quartet, he received Sri Lanka’s prestigious Deshamanya award in 2005 for his contributions to music and culture.
The programme features four outstanding works for strings: Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Barber’s Adagio for Strings, and Popper’s Requiem for Three Cellos and
Piano. While some of these deeply moving works express a sense of sorrow, they also celebrate the joy of making music, and the life, legacy, and enduring influence of a musician who inspired audiences around the world.
