Joel passed away Feb 1, and while he moved back to Florida years ago, he has many people in West Michigan who love and miss him very much. Joel hosted many Día de los Muertos gatherings to share the stories and memories of loved ones, so we think this year he deserves an ofrenda and a gathering in his honor. Thank you to Lisa and Susan at Periwinkle Fog for offering the space, Alynn Guerra of Red Hydrant Press for advising on the history and tradition of creating the ofrenda, and Shani for bringing the marigolds for Kerri to build the ofrenda in the store window (and others for their support, you know who you are).
The ofrenda is there now until November 2, you can stop by during open hours to reflect, leave a post-it note, write in the journal, and/or add a picture to facebook with your memories of Joel.
You are also welcome to come by at 6pm on Día de los Muertos, November 2, for a gathering of friends after hours at Periwinkle Fog. Light refreshments will be available, lots of laughter, probably some tears, and definitely a memorable time sharing our stories of (with?) Joel. If you would like, feel free to bring a small item to add to the ofrenda that evening, something that Joel might enjoy - for example, something like a chocolate truffle perhaps, like he used to offer during BlueDoor Shop Hop days :)
An RSVP to this invite re: November 2 would be appreciated, so we have an idea about amount of snacks to provide.
