Remembering DenmarkTriple Screening – Walking Performance – Nostalgia Dinner & Discussion
November 7, 14.00-20.30 in ALRUM, Aarhus Billedkunstcenter
Register via email: [email protected]
Join us for a full day of film, performance, discussion, and food, where we invite you to explore big questions together with artists Rune Peitersen, Scott William Raby, Kristoffer Ørum, and Jette Gejl Kristensen.
The program is grounded in Rune Peitersen’s newly finished film trilogy: RAABJERG (2022), The Old Town (2024), and The Promises (2026). The films spring from Rune’s relationship to his homeland, Denmark, as someone who has lived in The Netherlands and Belgium for over 30 years.
Living abroad allows you to gain a new perspective on the country you left. How do we relate to the landscape, especially when it transforms over time? How do we remember neighborhoods that have grown and evolved, and eras that have passed? How do we deal with change both as a general concept and a fact of life?
Between screenings, Scott William Raby will invite the audience to collectively explore Sydhavnen via a performative walk in the neighborhood surrounding Aarhus Billedkunstcenter. Through imagination and criticality inspired by local histories and psychogeography, he will invite the audience to see, discuss, and share memories in this context. Sydhavnen is currently experiencing a major re-development, but who benefits from this process? Who is left out? Drawing on his previous public art projects in Danish waterfront areas (e.g. Skagen, Frederikshavn, and Ebeltoft, et al.) Scott will plant the seeds to collectively envision a democratic "PRODAG" (or PRO-Development, Anti-Gentrification) ethos on site.
The day will conclude with a beige dinner prepared by artist Jette Gejl, inspired by her childhood in 1970s rural Jutland. Taking Jette’s meal as a starting point for shared reflection, Rune and artist Kristoffer Ørum will lead an informal discussion of what artists might know and how that knowledge can be shared. Remembering, ingesting and sharing what used to be, to better understand the now.
Attendance is free, but please register via email to [email protected] no later than November 5.
