Remember Me: Musing on Birds, Tulsa Artist Zia Daugherty’s First Solo Exhibition Opens October 3 at Positive Space
Remember Me: Musing on Birds, by Zia Daugherty, is a collection of original artwork exploring themes of environmental vulnerability and the value of life, using birds as a visual through-line. “Many different ideas and emotions come up as I think about the subject matter of my art, such as environmental change, extinction, and our role in it all. I have begun categorizing these musings into specific art pieces as a way to process what can sometimes feel too big for me to put into words,” says Daugherty.
This exhibition invites the public to create a space for dialogue and ask: What is nature? What is our past, present, and future relationship with life on this planet? And which lives do we adhere value to and why?
About the Artist: Zia Daugherty is a visual artist residing in Tulsa, OK, specializing in oils and mixed media and inspired by the beauty of birds and native ecosystems. Zia also works as a decorative painter and art restorationist, demonstrating her versatility across various mediums including plaster, concrete, wood, and gold leaf. Her newest body of work explores the interconnected themes of human ecology, value systems, and environmental ethics.

An art space dedicated to Womxn artists, Positive Space Tulsa believes: The letter “x” in Womxn recognizes all women, including gender expansive identities. Positive Space Tulsa is for women, nonbinary, genderfluid, genderqueer, and agender artists (excluding those who identify as male/men). Womxn is pronounced the same as woman or women.
